About Serena

When people ask me, "Where did you learn English so well?" many are surprised that school didn't play a significant role. This is the problem that's often overlooked in teaching: too much grammar and too little practice. I believe languages can't be learned by memorizing conjugations. My personal experience was finding the spark that would then encourage me to 1. consume content in that language and, without realizing it, grasp the meaning; 2. realize only later that my brain was learning by inertia. This is how children learn their native language, and it's therefore essential to understand that only this can lead us to be natural speakers, who don't make speaking a cumbersome translation process but an organic integration into our personal knowledge.

About the lesson

My personal journey with languages has often taught me that "learning by doing"—getting your hands dirty right from the start—makes learning a foreign language incredibly easier and more intuitive. I firmly believe that challenging yourself to engage in real-world conversations and situations is the key to developing full language proficiency, especially eliminating the annoying dilemma of “I think in my mothertongue first, then I translate in English”. I am positive that talking about things we truly enjoy, such as passions, current events, and personal interests, will bring us even closer to the “native speaker effect”. In this regard, I'm willing to create a project with you that tracks your progress and builds on your personal foundations, first by identifying your weakest points.
