About Ben
I have a MSc. in applied and computational math from Simon Fraser University (SFU) and a BSc. in physics from University of the Fraser Valley (UFV). My specialty lies in the application of math to solving real-world problems using a combination of mathematical modeling, applied analysis, and scientific computing.
I worked during both my undergraduate and graduate degrees as a teaching assistant for math courses including: calculus, numerical analysis, introduction to partial differential equations, and fluid dynamics. Additionally, in between undergrad. and grad. school, I worked as a physics lab instructor at UFV. Since I started my university degree, I have also worked as a private tutor. I tutor exclusively online, so I am well-versed in how to use virtual teaching tools and how to communicate effectively in an online environment.

I like to begin by working through problems that students are struggling to understand together. My goal is to listen to the student to understand how they are misunderstanding the concepts, that way I can coach them through the critical reasoning skills that will help them not only solve their current problems but give them the confidence to succeed at solving new problems.
I believe that all math (and physics) has applications and I want to help students feel engaged in their course work by discussing tangible and relatable applications of the techniques they are learning.
I have experience with high school level math and physics, along with university level courses including: calculus, linear algebra, differential equations, complex analysis, numerical analysis, mechanics, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, quantum mechanics, and electricity and magnetism.
