My goal is to bring narratives and stories to light that are usually unexplored in the dominant narrative. I try to place historical figures and events within their greater context. I incorporate primary sources, maps, and yutube videos where appropriate. For instance, if you would like to learn about classical Greece and Athens we would discuss direct democracy in Athens and the general historical trajectory of the city. However, we may also discuss the limits of that direct democracy (i.e women's lack of power/role of slaves), as well as Athen's imperialistic actions over other city states.
I also offer lessons on the accuracy of historical movies. For instance, what did the "The Mummy" get wrong and right about Egyptain culture? Were Ram. and Nefertiti real people? , and so on!
I have a BA in History/archeaology from Sweet Briar College and a MA in History and Museum Studies from Tufts University. I am well versed in the history of the ancient world including ancient Egypt. My past teaching experience includes TA duties and the creation and implementation of a class on ancient Egypt for adult learners. I am also attempting to raise funds for Egyptology study abroad.

I served as Hannah's advisor during her graduate work at Tufts University as well as her supervisor when she served as a teaching assistant for one of my courses. I also worked with her as she developed a brand new course on Egypt for the Tufts Osher program. Hannah is incredibly dedicated, detail oriented and has a real passion and excitement about the history she studies. She also very much wants to share that history with others. In her teaching, her own enthusiasm for the material comes through strongly as does her real and honest desire to not only share what she knows with others, but with her students to learn more together. I have been a teacher at the university level for 24 years and before that at the high school level for 2. In 26 years of teaching well over 9000 students, I have developed some sense of what it takes to be effective in the classroom. Hannah is a born educator and someone who brings together a strong scholarly mind with the ability to effectively share her knowledge, making even complex concepts understandable.
Hannah is one of the kindest most patient educators out there. On top of that she is extremely knowledgeable. She can tell stories of her time abroad and bring the learner back in time with her enthusiastic descriptions of human history. I highly recommend her as a tutor !
I've know Hannah for over 20 years and she is my go-to resource for all things archeology. She is not only extremely smart, well-educated, and knowledgeable about the subject, but she's also incredibly passionate and could get anyone excited about archeology. I cannot recommend someone more highly to be your teacher!
