« I'm currently serving as Lauren's editor for the Arts & Culture section of the Daily Gamecock student-run newspaper. She is always bringing bright ideas to the team and keeping a constant run of communication between herself and the management team. She has worked very hard to grow her journalistic skills in a short period of time and been a great mentor to others in our section. Lauren is very receptive along with being very positive. I would highly recommend working with Lauren and I trust in her to help others overcome challenges in a productive and purposeful manner. :) »

Journalism student, writer, and reporter offering lessons in academic writing, reading comprehension, and English SAT prep.

Methodology

My teaching method combines collaborative and individual work. First, I walk my students through the lesson step-by-step and work through example problems with them. Then, I ask students to complete problems individually to assess their understanding of the concept. If the subject allows, I incorporate activities or interesting source materials to further engagement and understanding.

Background

I am a journalism student at The University of South Carolina who is also a reporter for the student newspaper. I was my high school's valedictorian and have maintained a 4.0 at my university. I am most knowledgeable in reading comprehension, essay writing, and creative writing. I scored a 710 on the English portion of my SAT, which placed me in the 96th percentile and a 740 on the English portion of the PSAT which placed me in the 99th percentile. Because of my experience with the SAT, I am a good candidate to help students with prep for the English portion of the test. Additionally, I worked in a teacher's assistant position for several weeks as part of a Teacher Cadet course at Winthrop University. This allowed me to gain experience and skills that make me a competent and caring tutor.
