I’ve mostly only tutored young children, so my approach has always been rooted in a relaxed manner and patience, first and foremost. Second, my teaching methods are discussion-based, although I will pause for the student to take down notes to which they can later return. My lesson structure normally relies upon a workbook, worksheets, or other such specific homework, wherein we will analyze the text, break it down, highlight important parts, jot down notes in the margins of deeper meanings, and also tackle spelling drills, grammar exercises, synonym activities to boost vocabulary, explore the origins of the modern English language, and then discuss all of the above of course. The point of this all is so that the student will become comfortable and familiar enough with their subject that they will truly know it—notes and other aid will no longer be necessary.
I’m a writer, activist, surfer, dancer. I’m the Managing Editor of Crybaby Zine, Content Writer for Adolescent, Art and former Social Media for The Messy Heads/Messy Mag, and Editor and writer for Sunstroke Magazine. I also freelance and am currently on a gap year after having completed my first year of college already. I am very capable with the English language and as well as with other social studies.
