I hope to teach English and writing at a university once I have completed my Master's degree. I believe in learning by doing. The best way to learn about literature and language without realizing you're even working is simply to jump in. Read books. Talk it out. Use language in a way that works for you. What do you believe about this topic? How can we show the reader how this affects them? I will not completely proofread essays or stories, but I will use your work to show YOU how to recognize and fix a problem in the future and make sure you have the understanding and knowledge to proofread with me. I think we'll get along just fine.
I tutored and led learning groups for two years in the Language Success Center at Chaffey College. This experience not only gave me a first-hand look at the knowledge students are entering and transferring out of community college with, it also forced me to look at the accessibility of the English language completely different. I worked with students of all ages, all over the spectrum of ability, and all with unique goals. Students frequently requested my services after earning encouraging grades. I even got to help with the application essays that would take my students off to UCLA, Cal Poly Pomona, UC Fullerton, UC San Diego, UC Berkeley, and University of La Verne. It was the most rewarding job I could have asked for out of college.
Now I'm living in Las Vegas with my kitten, Catsby, and working on my Low-Residency MFA in Fiction Writing. She's keeping me company as I write my first book. I am looking to find new students, online or in person, to work with. I want to be a resource for whatever phase of life you are in! There's no bad time to build a relationship with language. I can't wait to tell my future students about your success story.
