Led the company’s technical solutions to align more closely with strategic goals and to improve sales and margins.
Developed and managed the digital disruption model utilizing new ecommerce options, CRM adoption, and data analysis. Revitalized a 96-year-old brand using proven solutions while also acting as a change agent for growth. Supervised the IT/IS department, empowering staff to take risks using manageable and measurable projects to move the company forward.
Launched a PCI DSS compliant ecommerce website to sell parts with geolocation detection, credit card and quote requests, and a CMS for site editing.
Realigned IT department for overlapping coverage, separation of duties, periodic security access audit reviews, improved and transparent documentation for senior management, and peer reviews.
Took ownership of technology steering committee to align business strategic goals with IT initiatives.
Developed a 5-year technology roadmap for proper budgeting, data initiatives, cyber security and IOT considerations, secure plant and field data entry, and resource planning.

VICE PRESIDENT, TECHNOLOGY / ASSOCIATE VICE PRESIDENT, TECHNOLOGY / WEB DIRECTOR 2007–2015 Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed)​—Washington, DC
Directed and implemented solutions to improve IT infrastructure for trade association serving more than 400 medical device manufacturers. Identified and responded to requirements for technology support and network services, Web development, CRM, ecommerce/emarketing, and cybersecurity.
Created and implemented 5-year technology and security strategic plan. Strategic plan focused on cybersecurity, business continuity, alignment with the organization’s strategic plan, and long-term cost efficiency.
Developed a comprehensive security and risk management governance policy covering document retention, remote workplace, physical and asset risk mitigation, defined access rights, and network security audits.
Achieved 99.99% network uptime for 7 years. Used VMWare to consolidate farm of 20+ servers into just 7 servers with redundancy. Designed in-depth strategy—including firewalls, redundant ISPs, and off-site backups—to ensure business continuity.
Reduced tech support budget by 50% by switching from a remote, outsourced tech support platform to an in-house CSR supported by a vendor who worked onsite as needed.
Upgraded, integrated, and administered formerly siloed database platforms. These platforms included internal databases (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics CRM, Solomon) and SAAS (e.g., Salesforce.com). This initiative allowed the association to process $25M in annual dues electronically for the first time, as well as achieving a 500% increase in cart transactions for classes co-sponsored by the association and the FDA.
Redesigned and relaunched the primary website from outdated ASP to a more open source CMS, increasing online security, functionality, and reliability. Initiated a Web support contract with vendor to develop and maintain 16 websites for the association, including an ecommerce package for course registrations. Maintained a 100% success record against attempted hacks and other attacks for 8 years.
Managed a $2M budget for software and hardware maintenance as well as related fixed assets.
Chaired the CIO Summit, the association’s forum for CIOs of member companies to discuss issues facing medical device manufacturers. Advised the association’s cybersecurity working group on trending issues and solutions in medical device cybersecurity.

Converted company’s strategic focus from print magazine to online presence, shifting profit ratios from 90% print/10%
Web to 40% print/60% Web. Directed corporate Web growth, management (analytics, marketing, SEO), and operations. PCI compliant website developed. Physical, asset and fraud security guidelines aimed at SMB.
In 4 years, increased Web income by 600%. Doubled opt-in email list; tripled website registered users list. Grew staff from 2 to 5 full-time employees, plus contractors.
Designed and launched an online library of MP3 magazine clips (paid subscriber model), daily video reports and podcasts (daily video blog/infomercial), and CEO blog site (with strategic industry partners).
Innovated new business model projects: Designed web advertising packages to increase effectiveness of online ad buys. Custom-built microsites to maximize click-to-lead conversion for advertising clients (including Salesforce.com, WebEx, Macromedia, and Marriott). SENIOR PRODUCER AND E-COMMERCE EXECUTIVE PROJECT MANAGER 1999–2003 Time Life​—Alexandria, VA
Built e-commerce department that integrated seamlessly with the product development process, so that selling new products online became part of Time Life’s core business function. Directed technical and business resources, including programming, marketing, creative, data, and quality assurance (QA). Grew staff from 3 to 25 full-time employees, focusing on affiliative management style.
Created communications plan between departments that utilized internal content assets to unify brand, re-use existing content, and position product lines for improved sales.
Optimized and scaled down code builds, allowing for more effective unit testing to meet fluid production schedules and objectives. Developed flexible data models and discrete code testing methodology.
Reduced site defects by up to 60% by recalibrating QA processes for managing incoming data deliverables from multiple departments. Implemented testing methods that used scripts to allow non-QA personnel to test and report data and code defects.
