I try to be very student lead when teaching. I do some initial work to determine strengths and opportunities as well as consulting with parents to determine any areas of focus they may have noticed as well. Once I have identified a starting point, I think it is very important for students to feel as though they are an equal participant in the tutoring process.
I have experience working in public schools as an instructional aide. Most recently, I was an IA in a Resource Specialist Program working with students in grades 2-8 with various requirements for alternative learning opportunities. Further, I have worked as an in-home academic tutor throughout the last year to provide additional support to students who have had challenges with the distance learning process.
Because I am able to tutor in all elementary school subjects, I do charge $20/hour per student. Though the website has me select a specialty, I am able to provide academic support in mathematics of all levels, sciences, reading instruction, language arts and even elementary-level Spanish.
