I teach for understanding - no tricks, no memorization. I see teacher after teacher on TIKTOK showing the tricks they use for teaching, for example, working with fractions. Teaching tricks in the absence of actual understanding robs the student of using the concepts of parts and wholes (fractions) for the rest of their lives! These students come to me in puzzlement. How rewarding to hear from them: “Oh! get it now!

About Donna

I have taught high school mathematics in a low socio-economic public education systems for more than 17 years. I teach all levels including Reteach, Academic Level, and Pre-AP. Pre-Algebra, Geometry, PreAp Algebra 1, Algebra 1, Pre-AP Algebra 2 and Algebra 2 are all subjects I have successfully tutored. Those who say “math is not my thing” quickly understand that they can be math masters. I love what I do and work effectively for kids in both types of learning environments - in person and virtual.

I recommend 30-minutes lessons rather than hourly. Students who are wrestling with new concepts need repetition over time. Two thirty-minute lessons are more effective than one-hour lessons in which their brains are tired in the last half.
