About the lesson

Lesson topics can be arranged to fit the student's needs. I am able to teach a wide variety of literary topics, authors, genres, regions and periods. Whether you need help preparing for an examination, have trouble making sense of assigned class readings, or simply wish to study a literary masterpiece with an expert, I can help you. I especially strive to provide valuable social, cultural, historical and philosophical context to literary texts, so that they no longer seem strange and alien, but rather alive and relevant to our current world.

I can also assist you in writing literature papers: I will not write them for you; instead, I will help you to understand the assignment or prompt, to arrive at your own thoughts and ideas about the topic, and to arrange these ideas most effectively for the given assignment.

Tutoring sessions take place over Zoom, Skype, or similar software and can be as frequent as desired. Scheduling is flexible.

About Seth

I have been studying literature at an advanced level, including the major authors and texts of British, American, European and World Literature, for over 20 years. I have 4 years of experience teaching literature at the college level. I have three degrees in literature: a PhD (Doctorate, Kent State University, 2017), an MA (Master's, Ohio University, 2007), and a BA (Bachelor's, Rider University, 2001).

Reading and teaching literature is my passion in life, and I truly enjoy helping students to discover the joys of reading and understanding great novels, plays, short stories, poems and essays from all time periods and regions of the globe. I try to help students learn the keys of literary interpretation, so that with these keys they can approach any text, however difficult, and make sense of it for themselves.
