About Ben
I am currently in my fourth year of an integrated masters degree in Physics, at Durham University. I have extensive tutoring experience in both Physics and Maths, with an excellent track record of enabling students to improve by several grades over an extended period of time.
I have experience tutoring all kinds of students, from those who are working to secure a pass to those who want to push themselves for the top grades. I enjoy the challenge of developing a different approach for each student based around their learning style, and I pride myself on being patient and understanding. However, I am uncompromising on my high standards for submitted work and effort and interaction in tutorial sessions.
Whether you want to learn new content and get ahead of the curve, focus on key areas to hit your target grade, or just get some past papers marked, I’m always be happy to schedule a free meeting and have a chat about how I can help.

I strive to tailor my tutoring to the needs of each parent and student. In the past, I have taught content from a specification, which provides a comprehensive and structured approach. In other cases, I have delivered targeted tutorials for when a student feels that they lack understanding in a particular area.
In my free meetings, I aim to find out key information about the subject and exam board that we will be looking at, before having a discussion about what students would like to achieve.
In tutorials, I cover subject content using a combination of verbal explanations and example questions. I also make a point of discussing content covered in previous tutorials, to help consolidate that knowledge. I often set problem sheets or small research tasks for students to complete, which help to develop intuitive understanding, vital research and critical thinking skills and exam technique. In some cases, I will set past papers or questions for students to complete in their own time.
Whilst I understand that students have many other commitments, I expect a high standard of submitted work to ensure that students get the most out of our sessions as possible. I am always open to negotiate deadlines and provide clarification and assistance on anything.
