I work one on one with high school students in person in Columbus, Ohio. Sessions are typically 1 hour.
Given a specific topic, the first 5-10 minutes are dedicated to reviewing the topic, and the remainder of the session is spent working through sample problems with the student. The student is encouraged to work on understanding, as well as developing strong mathematical practices, such as being thorough when solving a problem - limit the amount of work done in your head, clearly write your steps out, etc. Learning to be methodical in your mathematics makes the difference between a B+ student and an A+ student.
I have a bachelor's degree in applied mathematics from The Ohio State University and completed the Capital University's teacher certification program to obtain a license to teach 7th-12th-grade mathematics. II have demonstrated mathematical knowledge in topics ranging from pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, pre-calculus, and calculus on the Ohio Assessment for Educators. And, I have direct classroom experience in geometry, pre-calculus, and calculus.
The hourly rate for the scheduled session is still due if the session is not canceled with 24-hour notice.
Perfect! Madison has a great way of explaining things. And if you still don't understand, she is willing to help you until you understand it. I had a crazy schedule this summer, but Madison was extremely flexible. I highly recommend Madison! I definitely wouldn't have done well in my class without her.
