M.S. & Ph.D. in Physics
Postgraduate courses in Applied Mathematics
My math knowledge is not just rooted in textbooks: I have spent 30 years of applying mathematical approaches in real life R&D problems, so I can come with new approaches when student develops a "mental block".Over the decades I have also collected a bag of "tricks" that make some solutions easier.
When I tutor, I do not only teach how to solve the problem, I learn, too: I learn how the student thinks, so I can choose the best way to explain the problem and to select the way to solve it. In other words, I tailor my tutoring to each individual student.
I have over 20 years of math teaching/tutoring experience, on high school & college level. I have taught math at Roosevelt, Lewis and Benedictine Universities.
My experience confirms the latest findings in the psychology of learning : one-on-one teaching moves up the student’s performance by more than 1.5 standard deviation, i.e., a student in the lowest 6% of the class tends to move above the average, and an average student into top 6% of the class. What more can I say?
College level rate is $5/hr higher than the high school default.
However, if we meet in the Downers Grove Public library, you will receive $5/hr discount.
