I believe that my role as an educator is not only to inform, but also to train students to think both independently and collaboratively and take the knowledge they gain in the classroom and apply it in their lives. I envision my classroom to be one where students actively participate in the learning process with lessons involving interactions not only with their teacher, but also with each other. To train the next generation of mathematicians and statisticians, I believe that students must be taught to ask questions and properly employ the logical method to answer them. The engineers, technocrats, social scientists, philosophers and economists of tomorrow must also work in collaborative, multi-disciplinary environments to solve real world problems. Furthermore, priming students for any discipline requires knowing the basic concepts thoroughly with a strong emphasis on technical writing and presentation skills. I believe all of these principles must be employed to prepare the next generation of scientists for their personal careers and for their contributions to the world.

I am a lifelong Math and Stats educator with 30+ years of experience. I have experience teaching various areas of teaching including:

• Algebra

• Geometry

• Trigonometry

• Pre-Calculus

• Calculus

• Differential Equations

• Matrix Algebra

• Elementary Statistics

• Mathematical Statistics

• Distribution Theory

• Testing of Hypothesis

• Operations Research

• Sample Survey Design

• Regression Analysis

My passion for Mathematics and Statistics came about from a very young age and in pursuit of it, I got my PhD as well.

Teaching Statement

Philosophy

I believe that my role as an educator is not only to inform, but also to train students to think both independently and collaboratively and take the knowledge they gain in the classroom and apply it in their lives. I envision my classroom to be one where students actively participate in the learning process with lessons involving interactions not only with their teacher, but also with each other. Furthermore, priming students for any discipline requires knowing the basic concepts thoroughly with a strong emphasis on technical writing and presentation skills. I believe all of these principles must be employed to prepare the next generation of scientists for their personal careers and for their contributions to the world.

Experience

During my research, I served as a laboratory teaching assistant in M. Sc. courses at South Gujarat University, India. In this experience, I interacted with students but most importantly, I discovered that the best way to learn a topic is to teach it to someone else.

I have been very fortunate to have had plenty of opportunities to teach Statistics and Mathematics to various graduate faculties of Science, Arts, Commerce and Business Management. Topics included were Applied Statistics, Mathematical Statistics, Operations Research, Distribution Theory, Testing of Hypothesis, Sampling Theory, Linear Algebra, Calculus, Differential Equations and Matrix Algebra. Outside of academia, I have been teaching as a private Mathematics and Statistics tutor teaching students of various levels from elementary grade school students to students at the Post Graduate level. Apart from that, I am confident enough to teach more courses of Statistics like Econometrics and Decision Theory.

This diverse collection of experiences has given me a very unique perspective into education. However, I know that the only way to become an effective educator is through experience. The major elements to my success as a teacher were hands-on activities, collaborative projects, and relevant lesson plans. I came away from this experience with a fresh perspective on teaching and a newfound appreciation for importance of math and statistics education.
