I first observe students solving a couple of problems that they have issues with. I like to see what they do when stressed, what knowledge they reach for in tight spots. I don't just shove more knowledge at them. I link concepts together. Building an understanding from the connections of those concepts. And I show them effective techniques for studying and solving problems, giving them plenty of tools. Oh, and pictures. Lots of drawing problems and concepts out visually. We will draw anything and everything if need be to understand a concept or problem fully.
I am a physicist/math guy finishing a bachelor's degree in both. Extensive experience in electromagnetism, kinematics, newton's laws, gravity, and geometrodynamics. Of course, extensive experience in all of the math that those courses require. Seriously, a lot of math stuff in this brain.
