Medical student with experience tutoring all age groups in a variety of subjects

Methodology

I am a second year medical student in Iowa. I have experience tutoring many different age groups. I volunteered at a local elementary school in Des Moines where I helped struggling fourth graders with math and science. During my undergraduate education, I worked for my university as a tutor where I assisted students with a variety of subjects including calculus, college algebra, history, English, biology and physics.
My approach is very individualized depending on the learning style of the individual I'm tutoring. I always take time in early tutoring sessions to observe how a student tends to learn. With older students, they're typically more aware of their learning style, but younger students sometimes have no idea how they best learn material. For learners who are more visual, I typically utilize diagrams and pictures or make youtube videos for them. In medical school, we utilize a program called Sketchy which presents difficult concepts in the form of cartoons. From personal experience I can attest to its benefit for visual learners, and I utilize the concepts I've learned from this application frequently in tutoring, particularly for visual learners.
