Methodology

I always want to know what your learning style is first and foremost. I understand how difficult it can be to learn science and learn the why behind things. We will go step by step and try out best to make things interesting, applicable, and easy to remember.

Background

I am a medical student who received her bachelors of science in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology cum laude in 2016. During college, I taught in both large and small group settings as well as 1-1 for organic chemistry and anatomy & physiology. During medical school, I have also tutored medical students in all courses they take.

• Collaborated with Dr. Borate in finishing a review examining the misrepresentation of patients with therapy-related myelodysplastic syndrome within current trials and published literature
• Created a survey for hematology oncology providers in Oregon to collect information about provider competency of familial hematology malignancies and ethical opinions about incidental germline findings
• Collaborated on a manuscript that compares genetic trends in Acute Myeloid Leukemia to patient outcomes

Outreach for Health, Vice President January 2018 – March 2019
• Work in conjunction with the President of Outreach for Health to conduct monthly meetings with an executive board of 15 students represented by all colleges at the University
• Manage flow of monthly community clinics at local churches or food pantries by setting-up, educating and recruiting patients about our services, translating for Spanish-speaking patients when needed
• Ran a campus-wide Health Fair in collaboration with a local food pantry to provide free interprofessional health screenings to community members of North Chicago and referred a sub-set of those patients to our student-led health clinic at Rosalind Franklin University
• Developed a new set of patient education materials with the multicultural health clinic group leaders and providers of the Community Care Clinic at RFUMS to improve health literacy of patients and provide uniform information to patients across all health clinics at RFUMS

Family Medicine Interest Group, President January 2018 – March 2019
• Actively sought and communicated with family practitioners and program directors with unique perspectives or specialties via phone or email to coordinate events that match interests of students on campus
• Hosted an online webinar and Q&A session with program director from a newly opened residency program
• Collaborated with the faculty at the simulation center to plan a successful simulation event that encouraged medical students to work together with a licensed family practitioner to take a proper history and physical of a patient presenting to the Emergency Department
• Created an interprofessional motivational interviewing workshop series with the psychology department specific to topics seen frequently in Family Medicine such as lifestyle changes, substance use cessation, and delivering bad news

• Worked with other medical students to design and lead orientation for all newly enrolled students at RFU including medical, podiatry, physician assistant, nurse anesthesia students

Free Health Screening and RFUMS’ Interprofessional Community Clinic Volunteer January 2018 – Present
• Volunteered monthly with Health Screening Organizations similar to my Outreach4Health Organization called the Community Care Coach and Salud Ofrecida a Latinos
• Took proper screening measurements (blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol, and body mass index ) of adult patients, asked relevant patient history, educated patient based on said history/results, and then presented the patient and plan to the attending provider at the clinic
• Worked as Spanish Interpreter for patient and provider when needed
• Implemented new strategies within interprofessional teams to educate patients about the importance of the influenza vaccines during influenza season

Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) Education Team Member January 2018 – January 2019
• Worked with an interprofessional group of students in a team, led by a RFUMS Franklin Fellow – Sam Bunting, to implement an education model for PrEP
• Developed patient case studies using the determinants of health in Lake County
• Presented said education model and case studies to Health Care Providers in Lake County, IL with the hope to expand PrEP awareness for providers
• Developed a survey with PrEP team to send to graduate universities across the nation to gather information about HIV education in an effort to enact change about PrEP education at the provider-level

• Rotated through four primary care Spanish-speaking clinics as a first-year medical student and performed physical examinations on adults, children, and pregnant youth
• Lived with a local host family and took a 30-hour intermediate-level medical Spanish course
• Received intimate teachings by local physicians about how maternal mortality, culture, vaccination programs, and the health system shapes health determinants in Puerto Escondido, Mexico which has helped me to connect with the some of the Spanish-Speaking communities during my second and third year of school
