I am a semi retired Scenic Designer,Master of Fine Arts, who last worked for The Ohio State University, Mansfield Campus. Have also designed lighting and Costumes. I have worked large theatres to small intimate ones. I have had to build my own scenery and scenic painting on most of my shows.
Besides book Readings, One must watch live productions, Discuss what u do and do not like about it. Learn some of the practical parts of Scenery construction and movements. You will learn some drafting my hand, some and some cad work. Basic Rendering Techniques. Discuss how the type, shape of a theatre effect productions. Basic Design concepts and how to use them.
I have taught classes since the early 1980's, I have taught classes in Intro to Theatre, Stagecraft, How to classes in various Technical areas, scene painting, special effects textures on scenery. I have taught drafting, Mentored Scenic design and lighting to students.
Two of my students r working professionally in Theatre. Several more, in community theatre.
If the student is close by, I would not charge for extra time/cost of gas. If they r far away yes. There would also be costs for books, materials, and tickets to see shows.
