I value communications between people. To me, language is a device that helps people communicate with one another effectively. If I were to teach a class, I would want my students interact with each other and with me at all times. Thus, I prefer to use the communicative language approach, the task-based language teaching approach to instruct my students.
I believe that a tutor's job is different from an instructor. A tutor should only focus on what the tutees want the tutor to help them with (e.g. speaking, listening, etc.). As a tutor, I expect the tutees come prepared and know what they want from the tutor instead of coming in and expects the tutor to teach them everything, like an instructor.
I have a M.A. TESOL certificate and can speak Mandarin (native), English (fluent), and Japanese (medium). I was a tutor at an English Exchange program, focusing on helping Madrid University students speak English more fluently and better understand the American culture. I also taught (per course requirement) at an adult center, focusing on EL civics and U.S. Census.
I received excellent feedback from both my tutees, the teachers and the students at the adult center, and was asked by some of the students if I was willing to continue teaching the students even after my tutoring sessions have ended.
