My teaching personality is very casual and laid back. I was often told by administrators that I have a calm and friendly teaching style. Especially with my older learners I have adopted a "come as you are" mentality. The hope is to practice each week, but I know that it may not be possible each week or for each learner. Each week we will begin where you are, whether you have practice hours or not at all!
While my personality is laid back, my teaching methods come from a lot of experience, education, and personal research. I am trained in Kodaly, Conversational Solfege and have Orff experience. For piano, I am a big fan of the Wunderkeys curriculum but often infuse my lessons with other programs, such as Piano Pronto, when it fits the particular student. My Master's thesis was on lesson design created with the local, cultural, and socioeconomic factors of the students in my area.
