My teaching philosophy is that all of my students deserve my respect and have important life stories to share. I believe students need an environment that encourages them to ask questions about what they read, write, and think. I create this type of environment by making learning challenging and by respecting the ideas of my students.
My role as a tutor is to be patient, understanding, and encouraging, and to help my students recognize and develop their own writing styles. Another goal is to allow students to study topics and subjects that they are interested in while using multi-media tools to work on grammar, journal writing, error correction, and essay revisions.
I focus on online English tutoring for high school students, college students, and adult learners. I have a background in teaching, tutoring, and training, and I can help you to improve your reading, writing, and critical thinking skills. We work at your own pace in a supportive and relaxed environment –and we have fun while we learn together.
Raised and educated on the South Side of Chicago, I attended Englewood High School and later Chicago State University for my undergraduate degree in American history and my graduate degree in English.
My grade point average as an undergraduate was 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. As a graduate student, my grade point average was 4.0 on a 4.0 scale; in 2001 and 2002, I received the Graduate Division Honors Award; in 2002, I was designated an All-American Scholar; and in 2003, I received the Irwin J. Suloway Exceptional English Graduate Paper Award.
