Playing and singing every style of music from jazz to musical theater led me to directing choirs, bands, theater groups, and academic classes of all ages, levels and subjects, while incorporating the arts as much as possible. Because I have worked in urban and rural communities throughout the west coast USA and the Netherlands, I have grown to understand the individual needs of my students. Though I see no greater learning than from life experience, I believe that great teachers learn from their students as much as vise-versa, when we care enough about our students, which I do.
Since age 17, I have taught individual students and groups of people up to 40, first in flute, then singing, acting, ESL, and now substitute teaching grades k-12. My favorite experiences involved tutoring Chinese and Japanese exchange college students as well as the East Indian afterschool program where I still teach public speaking and creative writing. With a BA in theater arts /music from SFSU and Ms. degree in Mental Health/ministry from GCU, I am best at adapting to a variety student needs.
Lesson time and price will vary between $20 - 45 minutes (under 10 years old), and $35-$40 per lesson for performing arts students, depending on the age of the student or to be split between more than one student.
