My teaching approach is to allow the student to work until there is a stopping point, or they are confused and would like some help. At this point, I will offer a hint, or ask questions to prod a students thinking in the right direction.
I am a research and development engineer in the field of fiber optic lasers. I first began tutoring while studying algebra II, my first year of high school. I find teaching to be very rewarding, as there is nothing better than helping another person overcome the same confusion that you once had.

Research and Development Engineer on Femtosecond Project
Responsibilities include building, testing and shipping prototypes of ultrafast (femtosecond) fiber optic pulsed lasers. This includes providing datasets and diagnosing/resolving issues for high energy peak power laser units: issues including but not limited to hardware, software, mechanical beam alignment, glued beam alignment, beam quality, optical compo-nents, fiber splicing, pulse width, and various calibrations. Responsibilities also involved operating a wide variety of equipment, such as voltmeters, oscilloscopes, autocorrelators, photodiodes, optical spectrum analyzers, spectrometers, function generators, m2 station, fiber splicers, etc. Responsibilities also include documenting state of the art building pro-cesses for these lasers.

Assembler/Technician Intern (Summers Only)
Responsibilities included assembly of hardware, installing laser photodiodes in housing, installing motherboards with thermistors and resistors, soldering, testing laser diodes, installing fiber blocks and isolators, taking apart returned units and removing, replacing, repairing broken diodes, isolators, or motherboards. Responsibilities also included multi-mode fiber splicing, single-mode splicing, testing power losses for kilowatt units.

Research Assistant for Professor Mary Crone-Odekon, Ph.D. May 2016 – Jan 2017
Research involved classification of local and large-scale environments of galaxies and studying HI content based on these characteristics. Large-scale environments were classified as groups, filaments, tendrils and voids. Responsibilities in-cluded writing/debugging two programs in Python: one that used minimal spanning trees to classify large-scale environ-ments for each galaxy, another that determined the local environment of each galaxy based on the nearest neighbor densi-ty, for the purpose of predicting star formation. Collaborated with a group of eight on work for this long-term project. Se-lected as member of team of four to attend the 229th American Astronomical Society meeting and give poster presentation on “The HI Content of Galaxies as a Function of Local Density and Large-Scale Environment”.
Research Assistant for Professor Javier Perez-Moreno, Ph.D. Sept 2017 – Dec 2017
Research involved learning general background for nonlinear optics and modulated conjugation as well as learning tech-niques such as the nondimensionalization of the Schrodinger equation, and implementation of finite methods to obtain a general solution to the Schrodinger equation. Responsibilities included rewriting previous MATLAB code in Python to work towards creating an open-source code as well as presenting research to the department. Collaborated in a group of four to work on implementing this change.
