Professional artist and teacher currently teaching oil and watercolor painting and drawing to adults and children from 11 yrs plus. Learning from the old masters and developing an artist eye are key.

About the lesson

Lessons mostly consist of classical art training with some abstract work being explored. So far, all my students have been able to produce work that they are proud of and many had no idea they could paint or draw that good. Previous art training is not necessary, only the desire to learn and to have patience with your progress. I have an extensive study of the old Master's techniques and will be sharing that information. We discuss the dos and don'ts of painting so your work will last. I teach students how to see and develop an artist eye, opening up a beautiful world, that most likely, they have been missing. Composition, Values, Intensity, Perspective, and Mood are taught as well as the supplies and tools used to create in your medium of choice.

  • 01

When did your passion for drawing begin?

As far back as I can remember. All I wanted for Christmas was art supplies and thankfully, that is what I got.

  • 02

As a tutor of drawing, do you have a favorite style or area you enjoy teaching the most and why?

I love the drawings of Ingres, Durer, Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Rembrandt, Raphael, Rubens, Delacroix, Klee, Giacometti, Munch, Botticelli, Daumier, Sargent, Van Gogh, Cezanne, Zorn, Degas, Holbein, Renoir, Goya, Glen Michaels, and many more. I have studied these listed and still learning from them. I believe in teaching from the old masters and think it necessary to learn all we can from their various styles and techniques.

  • 03

How can learning drawing techniques help you as an artist?

Simply put, it teaches one to really see and observe and to become familiar with the lights and darks of the subject matter, without the more difficult task of understanding color. Drawing is the building blocks of any medium of art.

  • 04

Have you ever struggled with an area of drawing and, if so, how did you overcome it?

Yes, of course, and the way to overcome it is to practice and study.

  • 05

What do you think are the qualities required to be a Superprof in drawing?

To inspire excitement in learning to draw, teach the fundamentals of line, shape, value, volume, perspective, and to teach people to really observe and see what is before you. Many people, who are not trained in the arts, fail to really see and observe the world around them, so I basically teach people to "see."

  • 06

What would you say to a student who thinks drawing is only for those naturally gifted?

Non-sense. It only takes the desire to learn, the patience to do it and a positive attitude. I teach people to create, not be critics.

  • 07

How does a Super Professor tackle their drawing lessons; do you have your own special lesson plan?

Yes, of course, and my lesson plans come from 50 plus years of studying and learning the art of creation. I still take classes and will always seek to learn more. Education in your field of passion is a never-ending process
