With more than 30 years of experience teaching adults, I can mentor you throughout your research journey; from choosing an appropriate research topic through all the steps of writing a research proposal, which culminates in a dissertation. I will give you tips on how to multitask for those who are taking care of a family while holding a full-time job. I will advise you on how to get out of writer's block without giving up. I also teach English for specific purposes, how to write an appropriate abstract, summaries, paragraphs, and writing different parts of a research project or dissertation.
- Academic tutoring
I am a seasoned writer, who is passionate about academic research. I enjoy sharing my experience to motivate others who may be struggling with academic writing and research. I am a mother of three adult ladies who have all excelled academically and a wife of a PhD-holder. I am a Ugandan by birth and citizenship, but I spent most of my career in southern Africa working in different organisations and universities as a lecturer/consultant. I have travelled and attended various workshops and conferences in various countries including Greece, Finland, and the United States of America. At a regional level, I have travelled to Botswana, South Africa, Tanzania, Kenya, Rwanda, and Namibia, on work- related business. I have engaged with various academics on research projects and I have published in peer-reviewed journals, as well as chapters in books. I have also reviewed research papers for publication, and I work with various universities as an external examiner of Masters and PhD dissertations
A fantastic teacher and lecturer, reliable and information-rich.
Ruth is a reputable and very generous teacher who I've come to know when she supervised and guided me for my honours degree research. She is very knowledgeable and a good teacher who has got the patience to deal with diverse students.
She is a good teacher because she gives out information citing relevant examples with proof on current trends on this global village.
Ruth is a well accomplished tutor and researcher in the areas of Information Science. She has a rare skill in supervising and supporting students learning of a global nature. She understands the new research paradigm that combines the qualitative and quantitative lenses. She has a wide experience of teaching at an international level based on a pedagogical cognitive approach.
I think Ruth is a dependable, and trustworthy instructor, as she offers reliable research supervision which helps her students to complete their research projects on time.
I know Ruth from when she was a lecturer at the University of Botswana, shortly before she moved to the University of Namibia. I was on a masters programme in Library and Information Studies and Ruth was very helpful.
She thoroughly reads through sent work and makes appropriate comments which do not discourage a student. She takes a very short time in responding to queries as her interest is for a student to complete the study in time. She is patient and keeps on encouraging even slow students. In other words, she wants students to succeed and for that, I recommend Ruth as a teacher who can help give confidence to students.
Dr Ruth Abankwah was one of my supervisors when I did my Master's Degree at the University of Namibia, hence the vantage position I occupy to be able to comment on her work ethics. She struck me as a patient, meticulous, professional, motherly and highly approachable academic who consistently gave prompt and well-thought out feedback. She laid a solid foundation upon which I am still building now as a PhD student. She has a unique way of bringing out the best out of people.
Ruth us experienced, knowledgeable and tested professor. I have known for more than 30 years. When she started as a lecturer at BIAC in Botswana. She then went on to teach at the University of Botswana and Namibia.
I have been under the supervision of Dr Abankwah for a very long time, during my Diploma research project, Degree project and my Master thesis project. Throughout the years of being under her supervision I have gained so much knowledge in my area of study (Records and Archives Management) due to her nature of giving and always sharing information and providing great guidance.
I have found Dr Abankwah to be a very patient person, she never gave up on her students (us), she is very nurturing and passionate about her area of study always willing to go an extra mile in assisting us (her students). Whether you are taking so much time to understand a certain topic or you are misinterpreting what is being taught, she always made sure you are not left behind.
Back in the years she had a phrase "you are walking while others are running" to uplift anyone who was lagging behind with their assignments or tasks given. She has always been so professional in how she addressed us the students and she also taught us how to "be relevant" in the society in regards to what she has taught us.
There is always a story behind every lesson she's trying to teach, she has always made learning new disciplines in our field much easier because of her elaborative nature. Her class sessions where always so insightful because you come out not only with the knowledge about the topic at hand but also life lessons.
Those that get a chance to work with her are actually very lucky and therefore, I am wishing her all the best in her future endeavors.
Ruth is a best tutor and research supervisor. She has vast expertise in Records and Archives Management field. Research was not easy, but with her mentorship, I managed to complete it. Her patience and passion for her work is admirable.
