I graduated from Salem State University in 2015 with a BS in Education with a concentration in Elementary Ed. When I am tutoring children, I like to first find where the strengths and weaknesses. Then, with a gentle, yet guiding way, I will go into depth using manipulatives and a more "play" approach to help the child understand concepts better. It is in my understanding while working with all age groups that at the Elementary level, children learn better through hands on experiences, and I try to enforce that as much as possible.
I have been giving lessons for 5 years. I started in the public schools working 1:1 with ELL and low level students. I then moved onto the afterschool program at the YMCA in Salem. I currently am a 1:1 special needs para in the public schools. I pull students that need a little extra attention in subjects like math and reading. I tutored a non-reader for about half a year. In the half-year I worked with her, she quickly picked up level words and caught up with her peers.
