Every poet, curious or established, comes to the table with questions. After the first free course, I will tailor a syllabus to meet the needs of the artist. To meet these goals, there will be a healthy balance of lessons in craft, poetry folklore, composition of poems, and feedback in a workshop environment. It is my goal to have the student leaving with confidence in their craft and elevated level.
I'm a graduate from the Northwest Institute of Literary Arts (NILA). My mentors there were Carolyne Wright and David Wagoner, for whom I was a Teacher's Assistant for three semesters. For ten years I participated in a literary workshop environment; for three years ran an international monthly writing contest that awarded funds to the best. I know what gets published. I've mentored and taught dozens of poets and novelists. I run an online critique group to improve the grammar, craft, and myth-lore of creative writing, A number have gotten published. I value self-expression and the best way to get it done.
I have dual MFAs in Fiction and Poetry (I've been mentored by David Wagoner, Carolyne Wright, and Bruce Holland Rogers), these are terminal degrees - meaning: there is no further training or learning beyond these degrees, except what I continue to improve on my own. Since 2005, I've spent every week workshopping and improving the manuscripts of others, including my own. I have a bachelor of science degree in Communication, with the intention to improve my ability to engage an audience. I'm the creator and publisher of the "15 Poem Chapbook Series", of which 5 books have been published and 4 more to be delivered by 2021. I've published internationally as well as nationally in both hardcopy print and online publications. I've contributed, mentored, and midwifed a number of publications over the years. As a former entertainer (child stage star, performer, composer, musician) I'm consciously aware of the audience when writing.
