About Academic Tutoring

I first began tutoring in Fall 1997, after a professor suggested giving it a try. Since then, I had the opportunity to tutor many motivated students focused on improving their academic performance. The students I worked with included elementary / middle/ high school students; international students, adult students, and graduate students.

About the lesson

I create learning tasks appropriate to the student’s level of understanding. I also recognize the right the uniqueness of individual learners and avoid the temptation to impose “mass production” standards that treat all learners as if they were exactly the same.

I include appropriate character development with real world connections with every lesson. Overall, I am trained to differentiate any lesson through scaffolding techniques, as well as rigorous assessment, making sure to present appropriate and leveled instruction.

Each student learns differently and I always adjust my methods in order to get the best results from each learner. 98% of my students raised their English / Spanish grade from D to A; you/your child can, too.

I cannot say enough about what this tutor did for my daughter. Before tutoring, she scored only in the 15th percentile on the SSAT; she had been told not to answer questions if she was unsure and left a majority unanswered. After tutoring, she was in the 54th percentile. The key component to this improvement was this tutor. Her approach was even, gentle, encouraging, and instructive. He focused on how to take the test as much as getting the correct answers. For the verbal, he centered on word roots. On the reading paragraphs, he sought out the central themes. The math was a much-needed refresher course for my daughter. I saw her grow in confidence and competence with every hour of tutoring. Conner was always on time, ready to go, and an excellent communicator. I will use this tutor ahead of time with my current 6th grader when it is time for her to take this test.

I only offer the first lesson FREE (1/2 hour) if there is one hour tutoring scheduled, then I will tutor for 1.5 hrs.
