About Debra

Reading Teacher
1. I have more than 20 years of experience teaching Reading to students who are 1 to 3 years behind, or students who are on grade level but need reinforcement of reading skills.
2. I am certified and have my state teaching license. I am license to teach both general education students and special education students in grades kindergarten to 12th.
3. My teaching has been largely at the elementary grades in public, private, and charter schools.
4. I absolutely love teaching reading, as it is a joy for me, not just a job. Many of my parents keep in touch with me over the years.
5. I have been Department Chair in most of my schools, and Chairperson of the Intervention Team within schools.
6. The reading programs I use are research-based supported by data to be extremely effective in helping students progress.

1. Reading Lessons are given by a licensed specialized teacher.
2. Lessons are given to either students who are behind 1-3 years in reading or to students who are on grade level and need reinforcement.
3. All students are given a reading test to determine strengths and weaknesses and at what grade level they are performing.
4. Test results are communicated with parents.
5. Lessons are sequential, structured, and multisensory.
6. Lessons last from 45 minutes to an hour.
7. Reading programs used are research-based supported by data to be extremally effective in helping students progress such as the Wilson and Orton-Gillingham programs.
8. Parents are given monthly progress reports.
