About the lesson

I was not able to read before the fourth grade and it was during the fourth grade that I realized how important the teacher could change a life. Mrs. E, my third grade teacher, called me "stupid". Ms. S, my fourth grade teacher, realized that I was not able to read since I did not see the line of words.
Ms. S placed a ruler under each line and I was able to read. Since then, I have been a voracious reader and earned several advanced degrees.
When teaching students how to read, I am able to understand what is in the way of learning. For example, a 6th grade student was reading on a low level. When I worked with the student, I noticed that he did not read the small words like "an","a" and "is"etc. I yellowed all the small words and in less than six months, his level of reading increased tremendously.
MY analysis of strengths and weaknesses of students always leads me to the way in which to teach each student.

About Rochelle

I have been teaching for more than 40 years and even when I was hired as a principal,I taught a subject(ELA). As a principal, my tenure commenced in a school which served 90 students who did not come to school. The attendance percentage was 43 percent when I began my position and by the end of my tenure, eighty percent of the 340 registered students attended. My teaching experience and methodology was always based on the needs of the students. Thanks to me, hundreds of students earned diplomas. For example, one student who entered my school after being dismissed from two different high schools did very well and graduated as the valedictorian. Now, she is about to earn her second Masters degree and stated that she would like to be a principal like me.
