My teaching method is to first screen the student(s) for where they are in a concept and tailor my session based on their needs. In group sessions, I also try to pair students based on their grasp of the concept. For example, if one student has a strong understanding while another is struggling I find that it helps both students to work together in order to further strengthen the student who already gets it while assisting the other student in bringing the gaps in their understanding. If everyone in the session is confused, I work out an example problem while explaining (and writing out said explanation) why I'm doing what I'm doing. I then give further problems that slowly increase the difficulty to ensure they fully understand what we are reviewing.
I recently graduated from UCLA with a bachelor's in biochemistry with a 3.2 where I worked in a research lab that focused on cell walls while also private tutoring my floormates in organic chemistry and molecular biology in my spare time. I had transferred to UCLA from Chaffey Community College where I graduated with an Associate's degree in biology with a 3.7. During my time in Community College, I worked as a private tutor until I was hired as a supplemental instruction leader where I worked as a group tutor with the sessions having anywhere from four to twenty students at a time. These sessions were fifty-minutes in length though I found myself holding longer sessions when I had the time to ensure I helped them as much as possible.
If a student wishes to cancel they need to let me know 12hrs in advance otherwise I will apply a $5 cancellation fee.
