Overall, my approach to tutoring focuses on long-term cultivation of skills, student-driven learning, and cultivation of your own distinctive voice. I don't just want to help you get the highest score you can achieve; I also want to give you the tools you need to finish your homework, prepare for the SAT, or submit your college application essay all while feeling confident. My goal is to demystify the writing process for you. I want to break down all the rules that can make English difficult and intimidating, and help you cultivate your powers of expression. I believe that everyone can be a writer and everyone can succeed in their English classes, so I want to make that possibility a reality.
I've been a tutor for two and a half years at Indiana University's Writing Tutorial Services, and I graduated from IU with a Bachelor's degree in English Literature and a minor in Spanish. I have extensive experience tutoring English Language Learners and I'm comfortable tutoring across linguistic barriers. I'm qualified to tutor a broad range of subjects including high school and college-level English classes, American Literature, SAT prep for the Reading, Literature, and Writing and Language portions, and writing of any style or subject. My favorite tutorials are the ones where I get to help a student craft a knock-out thesis and refine their argument in persuasive or analytical papers.

Kristen's a fantastic teacher, full of empathy for her students and clear, precise directions. We were colleagues at Indiana University's writing tutorial services where we helped undergraduates with their academic work. I have often turned to Kristen for help with my own students because of her rare wisdom and insight into the academic writing process. She can immediately diagnose her students' difficulties and devise the best methods to support her students' academic growth. Trust Kristen with your writing, and it is sure to shine.
