My way of teaching is to allow the student to be highly interactive. Instead of simply telling them the answers and giving my point of view, I want them to tell me their thoughts prior to my explanation. By allowing the student to collect their own thoughts and comprehension, they will more efficiently learn how to use the skills I taught and covered when they get back to the classroom! For lower grade levels, when teaching reading and writing, I begin by guiding them through a more advanced lesson, and following that, I give an easier lesson or reading for them to complete on their own with little to no input. This way, they will be able to apply what they have done more effectively in future lessons and assignments. My lessons are for students in Elementary School to High School levels, and they will adapt according to the academic level. What sets me apart as a tutor is that I strive to teach on the same level and with the same dedication that I utilized in my school career. It took a lot of hard work to graduate with a 3.9 GPA, but I believe that everyone is capable!
Academics has always been a priority for me from a very young age. I am very passionate about learning, and I love to pass on this same attitude to others. My main goal is to develop confidence, accuracy, and understanding in all of my students; the ability to analyze assignments, readings, novels, etc. on their own is the primary focus of all my lessons. Independence is key--not having to rely on guidance and ideas from others, but generating one's own thoughts and conclusions based on understanding. Many times Reading and Language Arts along with English courses are subjective, meaning there are many instances where there is no wrong or right answer as long as you are able to support your ideas with evidence from the text, and I strive to make sure that every student is confident in their own abilities to do so without a doubt! Other times it is about using the text to find meanings and intentions of the text itself as well as the author and their methods to produce a particular message, in which there is a specific correct answer. For this sort of assignment, I will teach the student to understand context.
