I recently graduated from Mary Baldwin college in Staunton,VA. During my time there, I was a darkroom photography T.A assisting students and the professor for four years. I answered any questions they had and made sure the succeeded. In the realm of art, everybody's creative process and production of work is going to be extremely different from someone else. My way of making sure the student produced their best work was to show them examples of photographers that had a similar style, research their techniques, and then apply those same techniques in the darkroom. The student and I would do several tests until the student was confident in their work. While I did most of this on a college level in a darkroom, this can be applied to anyone of all ages and with a digital camera.
I was a Photography T.A for four year. I assisted both the professor and the students during my time there. I helped almost twenty students per year during my time there. This included helping them setup darkroom stations and chemicals for the paper, answering questions about the professor's lessons, and making sure the students is using the right techniques for their body of work. The students I helped over the years have received passing grades for each of their projects. To this day, many of the students I assisted still reach out to me with questions about photography or they will tell me about how they helped someone else by using the same techniques I used with them.
