Redding area college student with one year teaching experience looking to tutor

Methodology

I give highschool and middle school students help with homework, not only assisting them with whatever they're struggling with a the moment but also teaching them time management, organization and helping them keep track and remembering previous lessons. I can also help younger learners develop their reading abilities.

Background

I am a college student pursuing a degree in education and a teachers credential to be a full time teacher in the future. In the meantime I'm looking for work in the educational field. I've completed the CBEST and a paraprofessional test, and also have one year of teaching experience from an international internship program where I was teaching English, both spoken and written, in Beijing, China.

Job Experience

2012-2015 Cone Community Church, Ground’s Keeper Red Bluff, California
I have maintained the aesthetic appeal of Cone Community Church for three years, since I was a sophomore in Highschool, till I left to Beijing. I have mowed and edged the lawn every week, have removed all the weeds and pests that try to come into the yard, and trimmed the bushes. Over the years at this job I’ve shown my responsibility and punctuality.

2014 Vector, Sales Representative Redding, California
I worked as a Sales Representative for Vector Marketing the summer of 2014. Even in the short time that I worked there I still managed to win a few of the honors they offered, including the grand a day award, awarded for selling a thousand dollars worth of our product (we sold kitchen cutlery) in a day. I was also selected as part of the “rising star” group, for members of the team who display a positive attitude and are quickly rising in status. I quit the job, however, so that I could focus on my education when school started again.

2015-2016 21st Century Kindergarten, English Teacher Beijing, China
In Beijing, China, I worked a year as a kindergarten teacher at a private school. I taught children ages 3-4 basic English skills. This was done mostly by breaking the class down into smaller groups at a time and developing natural relationships with the children, to simulate an environment much like home. As they performed different tasks throughout the day I would be there to instruct them, always in English, so as to promote English learning in as close to a natural manner as possible. I was responsible for making my own lesson plans with clearly stated objectives for the rest of the school faculty and the parents as well. I also wrote bi-weekly reports on each of the students' performance, gauging their English development and behavior.

2015 My Way English, English Tutor Beijing, China
Two months ago I started a second job on the weekends at My Way English. I teach a class of three students there, all around 7 years old. I expand and review their English vocabulary, I play games that focus on getting them to use their English in full sentences. I teach the proper pronunciation and reading.

Education
Currently attending: Shasta College GPA: 3.23 total credits: 35

Other Experience
Newspaper: I was a writer for the school newspaper for a semester, and then the next semester I was promoted to an editor. Not only did I write many articles for the newspaper, I was also responsible for editing the rest of the articles to make sure they had proper grammar and spelling.
TA (teacher’s assistant): I was also a TA for two years. I helped grade student’s assignments for the teachers and would sometimes help them explain concepts to the students.
Camp Royal: My junior year of highschool I was selected to go to the very exclusive Camp Royal (Camp Royal only accepts two applicants from each school). Camp Royal is a week long program sponsored by the Rotary Club that teaches members how to connect with people encourage them to do their best.
Drama: I have performed in multiple plays and taken a year in drama class. I acted in a play performed for a plum pudding festival, put on by Cone Community United Methodist Church. I also performed in two plays at Red Bluff High School. One year I acted as Dewey Maples in The Diviners. The next year I played the role of Gordon Page in Laughing Stock.
