About the lesson
My undergraduate degree is in Social Work from the University of Alabama. After a few years as a social worker, I returned to graduate work in English Literature and received my degree from the University of Montevallo, a public liberal arts school in Alabama. In midlife I took more graduate glasses in literature and ultimately earned an MFA in creative non-fiction. I do writing workshops using the "forms" of InterPlay, an expressive modality for all levels using movement, sound, story, and stillness, in which I have received, a level one certificate.

Most of my experience is at the university and community college level. However, I do creative projects with all ages; in recent years since receiving training as a museum docent for third and fourth graders, I discovered that I love involvement with that age group. I enjoy teaching all ages. I consider myself more a facilitator than a teacher and often use experiential methods. In teaching ESL, I prescribed to the "direct method," especially for conversation, which brings early confidence in speakers. I am fond of the pedagogy of Social Therapeutics which attempts to support the development of groups that facilitates each individual's learning how to learn instead. Two people can be considered a group, so this philosophy also drives my methods of tutoring individuals or online.
I have taught all together about about 23 years in many classes of about 23 each. Many students have come back to thank me for helping them refine their writng skills so that they did well in various careers.
