About Scott

I have 34 years of teaching high school English at all grade levels and ability levels, from freshmen to seniors and from basic English to honors and college English. I also spent five years teaching middle school English. I have been certified in New Jersey, Massachusetts, and Colorado. Beyond that, I spent five years tutoring on-line and in person for foreign high school students in this country to do their high school years. I helped each of my students succeed in their English classes, do their college testing and applications, and get accepted to college.

My primary approach in tutoring is to work from the assignments and activities that the students are doing or have done, guiding them to an accurate and full understanding of what they assignment requires. I enjoy using a Socratic approach to help them develop a deeper analysis or reading assignments. I have years of experience helping students develop cogent writing assignments through a step-by-step process that results in well written self-guided essays.
