About Maria
I obtained two associate’s degrees from Foothill College in June 2020, one of them in Biological Sciences and the other in Psychology. I have a total of one year of experience in a Biology laboratory and two years in a Chemistry laboratory.
I am a good tutor because I have a passion for learning and sharing knowledge. In fact, I have been tutoring since I was 16. At that age, I got my first job as a Music Teacher at the music school I had been studying since I was 8 years old. Then, when I started studying at Foothill College, I tutored Spanish for one quarter at the Teaching and Learning Center. I also participated in a program at Foothill called Pass The Torch, where I tutor and got trained to do so for two quarters. In January 2019, I got re-hired at the Teaching and Learning Center and tutored English on a daily basis until the Coronavirus lockdown.

My tutoring experience is based on the Socratic method. As a peer tutor, I was trained to guide students towards the answer without giving all the information away. At the same time, I would identify mistake patterns and taught the tutees how to recognize them.
