I take the student precisely where they are, carefully discern where they want to go, and then design a unique, custom lesson plan to take THAT particular student to the PARTICULAR place THEY want to go...
I personally may love Jazz and Blues. or Pop and Folk. ---but my task is to pay attention to what the STUDENT wants, and not merely say "I like Jazz style, so I'll teach that!"
A good teacher spends as much time listening to his student and discerning THE STUDENTS interests and needs as he does "teaching" him or her what the teacher wants to teach....
I am a committed, full-time professional performing musician and teacher (30 years of experience) making my entire living trough music) who has a passion for helping students find their way through the process of learning to play.
Sure, people can go on line and see "video demos" of how to play "Song X" or "Song Y", but the true joy of learning from a bon fide pro musician is understanding not only the MECHANICS of an instrument and the "notes" of a certain song, but the all-important elements of Music Theory that mark a TRUE player from a mere hack who "knows how to play songs..."
I'd compare this to the act of learning/teaching a language---Indeed, a person can get language tapes and videos and learn to "make the sounds" of a particular language, but to TRILY KNOW the language, one needs a hands-on teacher to guide them through the process so that the student become truly at ease with--and in love with!--- their new language....
My charge is determined by the particular NEED of each student...
If the student comes to my studio, the rate is $45...If I make a house call, we'd have a conversation about what would be a mutually agreeable rate...
