The first thing I do is make sure the student/students are comfortable with me. Find out what they need, i.e. studying for the SAT, or bettering their grade in school. We will only go as quickly as the student can. Help the student realize English can be fun.
I am a certified secondary English teacher with over 20 years experience teaching in public and private schools. I like teenagers and I like to have fun with them. I have tutored students privately in my home and have always had positive results.
Unless I receive a call five hours previous to the appointment, the student will be charged the hourly fee. I have reserved this time for the student and I expect their presence or a phone call or an email.

Background and Accomplishments:
1995-2006 During my tenure at St. Francis High School I wore many hats. My primary duties were to teach Advanced Placement English and British Literature. In addition, I taught and published the yearbook for five years, taught journalism and speech, developed and taught 21st Century Issues, and coached the Debate Team.
1993- In 1993 while teaching, I became aware of a very crucial need for individualized SAT preparation. I formulated basic strategies to help students understand the verbal sections of the SAT, and began tutoring in my home. I continue to tutor and have helped many students gain acceptance into post secondary institutions.
1990-1993 The Cottage School - As chairman of the English Department I was responsible for the development of the curriculum in accordance with the requirements of the Fulton County Department of English. I researched and established the textbooks and supplemental reading materials to be used by staff, conducted meetings with my staff, and acted as liaison for the English Department to the director of the school. Selected "Teacher of the Month", January 1993 by Northside Bank.
1989-1990 Yeshiva Beth Yehuda - Taught American History in an Hasidic all male school.
1985-1990 Detroit Institute of Arts - Developed a program to teach inner-city middle school students American History through American art. This was done by traveling throughout the inner-city schools with slides of the art and illustrating how the art was representative of a period in American history.
1983-1985 State of Michigan - Appointed by the Governor of the State of Michigan as an Executive Aide to the Governor's Commission
on Jobs and Economic Development. I contacted and held meetings with CEOs of major corporations along with the presidents of University of Michigan, Wayne State University and Michigan State University for the purpose of bettering the economic conditions in the state.
1982 Staff, Blanchard for Governor Committee - Responsible for all computer operations in compliance with the Michigan Campaign Finance Laws. In addition I organized major fundraising activities on behalf of the candidate.
1975-1981 Legal Assistant - As an independent contractor I worked for various attorneys performing legal research and the writing of briefs for all levels of the Court. I interviewed witnesses, drafted pleadings and did the preparation for trial and attended court with the attorneys.
1961-1971 Secondary Teacher and English Department Chair - Warren Woods Public Schools. I developed the curriculum for the English program for Warren Woods High School. Part of my duties was to present the curriculum and textbook selections to the Board of Education. I was responsible for innovative programs for the lower functioning students, and for the creation of honors electives for the advanced students. This was done in addition to teaching a full schedule, as well as serving as the senior class advisor.
In 2002 I was selected by the Professional Association of Georgia Educators and the Georgia Department of Education as the STAR teacher, High School Winner.
From September 1977 through September 1978, I was a contractual employee of Oakland University, Rochester, Michigan in association with the Michigan Department of Social Services. I was responsible for compiling information regarding the law as it applied to the social sciences.
