About the lesson

My approach as a tutor is to get a full scope of what the student already comprehends and what they are struggling on specifically. There is no use in wasting my time or the time of my students by teaching them what they already understand. My lesson plans break down as follows (most of the time).

1. Have the student email me ahead of time what unit they are focusing on currently in that subject, as well as the upcoming tests and quizzes for that Unit (teaching time management and communication skills)

2. Arrive at the lesson and first address any SPECIFIC questions that they are struggling on

3. When we start addressing those questions, I first ask the student to tell me what they already understand in relation to the topic they have the question about. Having them feel confident in explaining their knowledge up to a certain point, sets them up to have a positive outlook going into the problem.

4. Then, I will give a few pointers towards solving the problem (as many as are needed for the student to understand how to solve it themselves). If they cannot solve it themselves even with help, I will do it with them step by step.

5. Practice, practice, practice. After solving the problem I will give the student two-three more problems that are similar to the one that was just solved. I will also leave them with a sheet of practice problems at the end of the lesson.

About Marta

My name is Marta Meinardi and I am a college student and tutor based out of Orange County. I specialize in math and chemistry tutoring, but also assist in essay writing and test Prep.

I graduated from University High School with honors, a 4.2 GPA, and over 4 AP tests (all with a score of 4-5). I also graduated with an ACT score of 33 - corresponding to a 1510 SAT with no prep or study. I am currently studying Biology at the University of Denver.

In terms of teaching style, I believe in professionalism and boosting student confidence. I have seen countless students that have lower grades simply due to their testing anxiety, students that may just need to learn better time management skills or how to approach problems.
