When starting with new children in the water I take their age into consideration, so I know which level they can swim at, if they’re babies I make sure they’re comfortable in the water and know how to swim with their eyes down and kicking their feet with bubbles before moving onto anything else.
And older children I see if they are comfortable being in the water and if they can swim across the pool and how well they can before creating a profile on how they swim and how I can get them to improve.
Im a college student with 2 years experience teaching children how to swim and be safe in the water ages 2-13. And 4 years of competitive swimming experience. I’ve also had a shallow water lifeguarding and CPR license for 2 years and about to get it renewed.
