Teaching Credential student offers lessons in History, Psychology, and Social Sciences has 4 years experience

Methodology

In the social sciences, I've found that generally, inquiry-based learning allows for the best results. It is important for the student to form an interest in the curriculum and the best way to do so is to spark their interest in it through the most interesting points. Working with small groups or one student at a time allows me to pinpoint the points where students are in need of assistance and address the issue areas first.

Background

I am a historian, I graduated with my bachelors in history this past March. I did volunteer tutoring all through high school and into college. I Co-taught a freshman honors English class for my last two years of high school where I provided extra support for students, gave lessons, and assisted in grading student work. In both cases, I helped students form a deeper knowledge and understanding of the subject I was teaching.

During Winter Quarter, 2020 I wrote an honors thesis on the research I’ve worked on over the past few years.
I compared WWII and Vietnam veterans regarding the benefits and treatment they received from the government, as well as the public. I used this data to analyze how that affects their reintegration rates.

This is a quarter-long research fellowship to conduct research with a faculty mentor.
I analyzed pension files of Union soldiers as part of Dr. Keating’s larger project Peace Among the Citrus Groves, which traces the experiences of Civil War veterans in the wake of the war.

Office of Student Research Summer Research Program- Under Dr. Ryan Keating, CSUSB, OSR
Summer 2018
10-week intensive research experience sponsored by the CSUSB Office of Student Research
I transcribed and analyzed pension files of Union soldiers as part of Dr. Keating’s larger project Peace Among the Citrus Groves, which traces the experiences of Civil War veterans in the wake of the war.

Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship- Program Fellow

The Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship provides minority students with the opportunity to move forward into graduate school after finishing their undergraduate degree.
Through the program, I have attended conferences and research competitions in order to present my research.
I have conducted in-depth research over the last year and am currently writing a paper to conclude my research.
I did a comparison of reintegration rates between WWII and Vietnam veterans, regarding how public opinion of the war affects the benefits and treatment the veterans receive. These factors relate to how veterans are able to successfully reintegrate into society.

Natassja helped me with my European Civilization class. She was always well organized, understanding and knowledgeable in the topics. It was easy to approach her with questions and concerns. Her investment in my success was inspiring, and she worked hard to help me understand and engage with difficult concepts. Natassja is persevering and believes strongly in her students. Her use of different learning style methods proved very helpful. She has a wide range of teaching methods, academic versatility, and is a great communicator. All of these qualities along with her cheerful and optimistic disposition helped me succeed in my class.
