About Douglas
Hi, I’m Douglas.
I’ve just finished Year 12 VCE, undertaking Chemistry, Physics, Maths Methods, Specialist Mathematics and English Language.
I want to be a secondary school teacher, studying Engineering at The University of Melbourne next year, which I plan to follow with a Masters of Teaching. Tutoring is a great way for me to do what I love while helping you in your schoolwork.
I find great satisfaction connecting with classmates and helping them in their studies. I am able to frame complex concepts in a way they understand - a skill that has always come naturally to me. I like to engage and make studying fun as well.
I’m also no stranger to hard work, averaging A’s and A+’s during VCE and achieving a 97.25 ATAR.
Hope to hear from you so I can help you excel in your studies as well.

What makes me a good tutor?
As someone who has just finished high school myself, I have the ability to put myself in a learners shoes to best understand the method that will make the most sense to them, be that through use of analogies, visualisations, logical reasoning or other teaching methods.
What do I enjoy the most about tutoring?
Throughout my high school education, I've always had a passion for helping my peers to understand the coursework when they were struggling. I found great satisfaction out of helping them make the transition from a place of confusion to a place of understanding, as well as aiding them in building their confidence so that they can approach the more challenging problems on their own.
What are the most important things I can do as a tutor?
I consider confidence building to be a priority for a tutor. If a student is not confident in their own abilities, they will not be able to grow as a learner and eventually take on the more challenging problems themselves. A pivotal element in building confidence in students is creating a friendly and welcoming environment in which they can reach their full potential, as without this they may feel unsure of whether it is acceptable to ask questions, which is the worst case scenario as a tutor. This along with providing enjoyment for students are the most important jobs for a tutor.

I have had the great pleasure of teaching Douglas in 2021 and continuing to act in a mentoring capacity in 2022. Douglas is a mature and intelligent individual that grasps concepts well. He has an insatiable curiosity, wanting to deeply understand key knowledge and seeks opportunities to enrich his learning. As he ventures into a career of teaching, he demonstrates excellent leadership through helping his peers in a kind, courteous and patient manner. He will be an asset to the teaching profession. I highly recommend him as a tutor.
