About Kiah
Hi! My name is Kiah Schuessler and I am an undergraduate student at the University of Iowa studying Translation, Spanish, and Art History. My ultimate goal is to be a Spanish diplomatic interpreter. Because of this, my studies have focused on written and spoken Spanish, as well as a wide vocabulary. I am looking to work with beginner and low intermediate students looking to begin or progress in their language skills. My teaching style is friendly and gentle, but effective. I am here to make Spanish learning fun and simple!

I find it helpful to give students language and then explain the mechanisms behind it. This way, conversations can be had from day one, and pathways are left open for language exploration. For example, in Spanish, why do we say “Me llamo” when introducing ourselves, while in English we say “My name is?” The student now knows how to introduce themselves and the question prompts further learning about verb structure in this new language. As we add vocabulary and grammar, there will always be an explanation as to why we are saying what we are. With true comprehension comes mastery and the ability to be creative and experiment with language!
