My teaching philosophy reflects my interest in collaborative and independent learning. Learners should cultivate a spirit of intellectual independence and recognize themselves as active participants in a shared scholarly pursuit. In that way, I expect clients to take intellectual risks, to challenge assumptions and existing research, and to create knowledge by considering their own and others’ informed positions.
As an English teacher and writing tutor with over seven years’ experience, I have developed excellent working relationships with students of diverse personal backgrounds. At Texas Tech, I tutor for the university's main and satellite writing centers. My client list includes undergraduate and graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows. My work as a tutor allows me to support students as a listener, facilitator, and fellow learner.
I also teach interdisciplinary and hybrid rhet-comp courses that emphasize communication in a global society, and multimodal learning, literacy and interactions. I support my students’ scholarly explorations and encourage them to produce critical insights and learn from others, thereby becoming “knowers” and applying knowledge in their own lives and communities.
