I like to get my students sight reading lots of music. Developing this skill early goes along way and it also helps develop a good sound and confidence. Weekly etudes and exercises as homework are a great way to go about this. How ever much I push my students is 100% based on their goals and willingness to practice. Additionally, I like to help kids find an efficient and effective way to practice that works well for them. Often people “practice” a lot but never get a whole lot better. Lastly, I strongly focus on tuning because in the trombone world that is crucial.
I am an undergraduate student at the university of texas (great trombone studio.) I’ve been a part of all sorts of ensembles like pit orchestra, symphony orchestra, trombone choir, wind symphony, chamber ensembles, jazz and more. I’ve taught lessons to middle schoolers and high schoolers before. I have a great routine to help young players develop their sound.
