Veteran and recent Montreat College graduate with a diverse array of experience and education teaches English and Writing Composition; middle school to high school.

About the lesson

-Much of my teaching technique is rooted in breaking down the learning process itself, and deals largely with tackling the specific issues that are preventing students from understanding or implementing key concepts. It is a process that emphasizes the cultivation of self reflection and understanding.
-Typical lesson plans are highly personalized due to the nature of the English subject and the age of the student. If the the focus is on writing analytical essays, much of the initial discussions will be based on the foundations of communication, in general, and will lead to more specific discussions from there. The foundational elements are key! If the focus is on reading comprehension, lesson plans are even more dependent on level, but are also heavily dependent on the foundational elements of communication; the ability to accurately understand what others are trying to express, and to be understood accurately in turn.
-Even though I have a military background, I am firm believer in the value of having fun. If the student finds no joy in what they're doing, it's farrr more difficult for them to see and appreciate the value of these incredibly important subjects. I wish for my students to foster a loving and lasting relationship with learning.

About Jason

Although I may not have the most traditional of resume’s for an English tutor, it hopefully represents a diverse body of work, experiences, and skills that translate very well into an environment that cultivates growth and learning; especially in the realms of English literature and analytical/creative writing. At this point, my love for reading, writing, and art in general, has been evolving for over twenty years. I have also been an instructor, in some form or another, since my freshman year of high school. Tutoring provides me with the opportunity to combine these passions in an extremely meaningful way. And how many English tutors do you know who are also Army Veterans?
