I am a graduate of Central Michigan University school of English and journalism. I have worked as a newspaper reporter, feature writer and editor for over 40 years. For the last seven years I have been a columnist for the Hobbs News-Sun newspaper in Hobbs, New Mexico. During the summers I have traveled to Mackinac Island, Michigan where I worked as a pianist at the Grand Hotel where I entertained thousands of tourist from around the world as well as Presidents of the United States.
I have a strong academic background and years of experience. I have taught many students over the course of my life. Many of my piano students are now professional entertainers. My writing students have come from the world of journalism. I have helped beginning reporters learn the ins and outs of reporting and how to use their time most effectively by not asking questions the answers to which they are not going to print.
I am a genuine love for music and writing. I have come to a time in my life when I want to share what I know with a new generation of people who can benefit from my knowledge and experience. I think my greatest asset as a teacher is that I am fun to be around and fun to know. I have an uplifting spirit. Playing music and writing is fun. Learning how to master both of those art forms is also a great deal of fun. If you love what you do, it is never work.
I grew up on a dairy farm. I learned the value of work as a child. I started playing piano at the age of seven and put my first band together at the age of 12.
My grandfather was a great story teller. He gave me an interest in the art of writing. After high school I went to college and earn a B.S. degree in English and Journalism. I taught high school English, journalism and creative writing for three years before becoming the head of an English department for a creative high school in Colorado.
My interest in music made me want to see the world as a touring pianist. I was able to travel across North America supporting myself as a pianist and working at the same time as an entertainment writer for newspapers.
