I am a recently retired, certified history teacher with an interdisclinary approach to teaching. I use interactive theater and creative writing exercises to make history fun! I see history as a living art and a subject filled with great stories to share! From the Hunter gatherers through the 21st Century, my students look behind the scenes to discover and discuss the motivations and decisions that created the history we study.
I have been teaching for 14 years. More than 200 students per year. 90% of my students have enrolled in colleges and achieved Honor and Advanced Placement status. I use colorful power point presentations and include day trips to historical sites. Some of my former students became part of an Honors Civil War Reenactment troupe I created and directed.
Even in nursery school I knew I was a teacher. I love to read and always wanted my students to learn to create images in their minds as they read. I am a graduate of The University of the District of Columbia. While there I had an unexpected opportunity to choreograph my University's marching band! I have received several community awards and am in Who's Who in America. My family history sheds light on American history and because of it, I am a frequent historical presenter.
I taught at both Prince George's and Baltimore City Public Schools. I have conducted diversity trainings for college freshman which I loved. For 13 years I traveled throughout the northeast US giving theater based lectures on Native American history. From 2000 to 2005, I hosted and produced an XM Satellite Radio Showl, "The Talking Feather," which discussed current issues and history.
For six years I led educational seminars at Arena Stage in Washington, DC. Working with teachers was wonderful. I led workshops on themes of the current shows and created student guides for the Student Matinee performances. What a great way to teach!
ZSun-nee is a retired history teacher from the Washington, DC area with many years of experience engaging students to learn more about their nation's history. Her experience with Arena Stage in Washington, developing diversity programs, I believe also provides a valuable foundation for engaging students in experiential education. ZSun-nee is articulate, well-informed, and a wonderful speaker. I believe she would make an excellent and trustworthy teacher!
I recommend Zsunn-nee for this , because she is a wealth of knowleadge and knows how to get a point across
